Yes. There are a variety of partial breast prostheses (also called shapers) designed when there is a difference in breast size. These form help regain balance and symmetry. Mastectomy bras will keep the partial prosthesis in place.
The purpose for wearing a weighted prosthesis is to give your body balance. When there has been a loss of tissue, the prosthesis compensates for the weight due to this loss. By wearing this type of prosthesis (which is external), you will have the weight for balance along with symmetry for a natural appearance. Lighter weight silicone forms and non-silicone forms are available for more comfort. Many shapes and styles of prostheses are available to ensure the best fit.
Yes. The Women's Health Care Act insures these products are covered. Medicare deems breast prostheses, partial breast forms and mastectomy bras medically necessary. Under Medicare, a replacement prosthesis is allowed every two (2) years and replacement of bras every calendar year. *Private insurances allow a breast prosthesis or partial form each calendar year. However, due to many types of medical policies and benefits, the quantity of bras many vary.*
